Since getting a Sinclair ZX Spectrum (48K) when I was eight years old I have enjoyed both computing and video games. In computing terms, I graduated from the Speccie to an IBM XT with dual FDD (until I upgraded to a whopping 10MB hard disk), then an IBM AT then a 386 before many years being PC-less whilst I was at University and whilst starting my career. More recently I had a Windows XP desktop but have since replaced it with an Apple iMac meaning that I am a 100% Mac user at home (though professionally speaking I am still a Windows user).
In gaming terms, I moved up from the Speccie to a Sega Megadrive, then to the Sony Playstation and subsequently Microsoft's Xbox. Instead of ducking and weaving between brands I now own all three major platforms (Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii) though I play games predominantly on the 360 due to the stronger lineup of games and the superior Xbox Live service.
If I had to make any recommendations from the current generation of consoles, I'd say:
Call of Duty 4 (Xbox 360, PS3)
Oblivion (Xbox 360, PS3)
Viva Pinata (Xbox 360)
Metal Gear Solid 4 (PS3)
Wario Ware Smooth Moves (Wii)
